The Scarsdale High School Class of 1966 is pleased to announce that it has established the “Eric Rothschild College Assistance Fund” at Let’s Get Ready to honor beloved Social Studies teacher Mr. Rothschild and his tremendous contributions to Scarsdale, Scarsdale High School and its students, and the overall educational community.
By donating to the Eric Rothschild College Assistance Fund, the Class of 1966 is supporting Let’s Get Ready programs that enable students from historically under-served backgrounds to pursue college and stay on the path to successful graduation. Already the Class of 1966 has met its goal of $5,000, and the initiative is growing in honor of Mr. Rothschild and in support of educational opportunity.
Let’s Get Ready’s Scarsdale roots run deep. In the summer of 1998, Jeannie Lang Rosenthal brought together a number of Scarsdale High School classmates in the basement of a Mount Vernon church. Believing that the knowledge and experience she had gained while applying to college could be of substantial value to high school students from low-income backgrounds who lacked critical support resources, Jeannie and her friends started the first Let’s Get Ready program.
That first summer in Westchester showed the tremendous power of “students helping students” get to college. Jeannie brought the program to Harvard where she was an undergraduate, and to New York City upon her graduation in 2000. Since then, Let’s Get Ready has served more than 28,000 high school students with the mentoring power of 10,000 trained volunteer college Coaches. In partnerships with colleges, high schools and community organizations, programs stretch from Lewiston, Maine to Philadelphia.
Progress beyond the 50th Reunion goal of $ 5,000 will be measured below. Donations in any amount — tiny to huge — are encouraged! Strengthening today’s young people through education reflects Scarsdale graduates’ dedication to building a better society via the next generation.
NOTE: As of 1/26/2017, this drive has raised $11,835.

“We live in a very affluent society here in Westchester. However, there are also plenty of people that don’t have those economic resources. That’s where Let’s Get Ready stepped in for me.”
