Let’s Get Ready (LGR) has been working with students in Maine for more than a decade to make sure they can reach all their college aspirations. On July 19th, we sponsored a special evening at The McKernan Center of Southern Maine Community College (SMCC), our newest partner, to celebrate our longstanding collaborations in the State of Maine, and the local community who make our work there possible, including long-time supporters: Margery Arsham, Merle Nelson, and Meg Swift.
There was much to celebrate as guests connected with one another and listened to featured presentations by Let’s Get Ready representatives and partners.
One of the highlights of the evening was speaker Dr. Matthew Goodman, Dean of Academic Excellence and Strategic Initiatives at SMCC. He spoke about our work together to support the students at SMCC as they begin and continue their journey through college, and how the near-peer mentorship has helped his students. This work with SMCC is an exciting example of LGR’s growth in Maine. In 2012, LGR served 113 students in our SAT Prep course. LGR is now working with 2,515 students who are enrolled in all stages of the LGR program from 11th grade to college graduation. Maine students currently represent 19% of the over 15,000 students LGR serves nationally.
Our CEO, Lena Eberhart, was at the event as well and recently reflected on the occasion:
“It was incredible to see the support of so many stakeholders involved in our work, and moving to see how aligned we all are in our pursuit of success for the students of Maine. I am so proud of the impact and growth we have seen across the state, and am very committed to ensuring Maine remains a core region for LGR.”
We are excited to continue our work within the Maine community, and look forward to supporting even more students this year!
