Dr. Sadie Alexander became the first Black economist in the United States in 1921. However, after earning her PhD, she was shut out of the profession.
To honor the 100th anniversary of Dr. Sadie's PhD, @npr has partnered with @sadiecollective, to tell stories about entering the world... of economics as a Black woman. The Sadie Collective, co-founded by LGR alumna Fanta Traore, is the first and only American non-profit organization that uniquely addresses the pipeline and pathway problem for Black women in economics, finance, data science, and policy across the world.
