UPDATE: Lynda Baquero’s “Visiones” segment on Weekend Today in New York is now here for your enjoyment. Thank you, NBC New York.
Let’s Get Ready is proud to be partnering with Figure Skating in Harlem, an organization that offers free skating instruction to young girls in Harlem while engaging them in uplifting off-ice activities including tutoring, financial classes, and fitness training. Students from Figure Skating in Harlem begin their work with Let’s Get Ready in high school as part of our College Access Program.
We are happy to share the video below, produced by Ogilvy & Mather, featuring the incredible Lia Castillo, a first-generation-to-college student at City College New York and an alumnus of both programs. In the video she talks about confronting and overcoming a personal economic challenge: “Math was always my weakest subject, but, through pushing with my Math Coach, math was my highest-scoring section in the SAT,” she says. “Let’s Get Ready and Figure Skating in Harlem definitely gave me the confidence to achieve my goals. Seeing that acceptance letter was like, ‘yes, I did it!’”
We are also very grateful to announce that Let’s Get Ready and Figure Skating in Harlem Partnership will be featured on July 22nd in a segment for Lynda Baquero’s “Visiones” series, part of Weekend Today in New York on NBC. Keep an eye out!
We look forward to continuing our work with Figure Skating in Harlem to help young girls realize their full potential.
